VEX_Robotics_logoOn Saturday, February 13th, Plymouth High School will host the school’s first VEX Robotics Tournament ever! PHS Robotics Club organizers, Lindsay Moore and Rich Schieber, would like to invite the community to come out and witness the 2016 Vex Robotics Game: Nothing But Net. Details of the event are still being pulled together, however, Schieber said, thus far he knows, “there will be 24-Indiana high school teams competing in the tournament, including multiple teams from Indianapolis, Plymouth, Mishawaka, Portland, Crown Point, Portage, and Culver Military.”

Jason Doody, a 2015 PHS graduate is back this year helping coach the robotics teams for Plymouth High. He said, “it’s different being a coach; I don’t necessarily get the satisfaction of building a robot and competing, however, I do really enjoy helping all the teams and giving them my knowledge to help them succeed.”

The VEX Robotics Competition website states the following about the game: Nothing But Net is played on a 12’x12’ square field. Two alliances – one “red” and one “blue” – composed of two teams each, compete in matches consisting of a fifteen second autonomous period followed by one minute and forty-five seconds of driver-controlled play.

The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing Alliance by Scoring your Balls and Bonus Balls in your Low and High Goals, and by Elevating Robots in your Climbing Zone.

Admission to the PHS Robotics which will be held in the in the varsity gym is free. Schieber said the first qualifying matches should begin between 9:30 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. and the event is expected to wrap up around 5pm to 6pm. Concessions will be available at the event.
