The Plymouth Lions Club was honored to have Marlene Mahler, Marshall County Recorder on hand at their October meeting. The primary duty of County Recorders is to record instruments submitted for recording and maintain those records. Land records in Marshall County start in 1836. All records are now digitized with indexing done back to 1960, and online access is available for a fee.
The mission of the Marshall County Record’s Office is to accurately record and preserve the history of our wonderful county. It is also their desire to do that with the latest technology, the professionalism and the courtesy that customers deserve.
Mahler explained a relatively new program she has started which is called PROPERTY FRAUD ALERT. All are invited to protect your most valuable investment, your home. What is property fraud…when someone illegally uses your property for financial gain. How does it happen…someone records a fraudulent document in the county land records office, making it look like they own your home or property. Should you be concerned…yes. According to the FBI property and mortgage fraud is the fastest growing white-collar crime. What can you do about it…your county land records office has teamed up to create a notification service called Property Fraud Alert. The service is FREE and you can get further details by contacting the Marshall County Recorder’s Office at 574-935-8515.
Mahler also explained another new program. This is a new service for Veterans, known as Honor Rewards. With Honor Rewards, Veterans can sign-up at the Recorder’s office to receive an Honor Rewards card, which qualifies them for discounts and incentives at participating businesses in our community. This service is being made available at no cost to the county and its taxpayers. This service is completely free and local businesses and retailers can participate in the service by contacting the Recorder’s Office or using the Business Sign-Up link on www.honorreward.com. By participating, their business name will be listed on the Honor Rewards website for Marshall County. In other business upcoming events and fundraisers were discussed and decisions on dates for the distribution of dictionaries to the third grade class students were set. It is estimated that 450 third graders will receive the dictionaries from the Plymouth Lions Club.
Operation KidSight is an Indiana Lions program to prevent early problems from Amblopia (Lazy Eye) which if not corrected before the child’s eye is fully developed may never be completely corrected without surgery. Plymouth Lions, in cooperation with all the Lions Clubs of Marshall County, work to screen every child in this county. Lions from Bremen, Argos, Bourbon, and Culver as well as Plymouth work to attain this goal. To date, the Plymouth Lions have screened over 300 students. The club will be updated at their next meeting on the final count.
Approval was also given to make a donation to the Haiti Relief Program. Lions Club International has already stepped in to aid in this Relief Project.
