SchoolLunchThe Plymouth School Board approved an increase in meal prices for the 2016-2017 school year; however, the increase won’t be instituted if an exemption is granted by the state. Plymouth Community School Corporation Food Services Director, Gloria Burnam, spoke to the Board on April 12.

Burnam said the corporation is required to raise prices, based on state calculations. “As in the past, we don’t like to raise prices,” she said. Burnham did apply for an exemption, but had not heard from state officials at the time of the meeting,

If the exemption is not approved, Burnham said she has a plan.  She said, “I did another calculation, putting in prices to see what we would have to do to get that price up, as to how much we have to raise. And it came out to K through 6th; we would have to raise five cents, so that would be $1.90 for students. Seventh through twelve grades, we would have to raise 10 cents, and that would be $2.05.”

Burnham did not indicate what staff members would have to pay for meals.

She said she had been told she would get an answer from the state within two weeks. She said, “It’s the third week now; we still haven’t heard.”
