PLYMOUTH – It was a long way to go for a tie but Plymouth Post 27 and Napoleon Post 300 did just that when the rain started at Bill Nixon Field on Monday night ending in a 6-6 deadlock in a game that was originally scheduled for Four Winds Field in South Bend and moved to Plymouth by rain in the afternoon.

Both teams are headed for a week of games in Omaha surrounding the College World Series and did not want to wait out the weather related delays and decided to end the night in a 6-6 tie as the rains started.

Post 27 started out on an offensive tear, building on momentum from the weekend at Defiance College – in a weekend of games sponsored by the Napoleon River Bandits – that saw the Diamond Spyders pound out 19 hits in a game on Saturday.

Billy Harness started the game being safe on an error and Post 27 pounded out four first inning hits on the way to three first inning runs and RBI’s by Braydon Davidson, Andrew Cullers and Travis Upp, batting around in the very first inning off Napoleon starter Kody King.

King rebounded to get the Spyders in order for inning number two but in the third he was touchd for to hits and three runs – the big b low a two run double by Galen Rentschler. Bandit right hander Alex Gurgin came on to end the inning and went on to throw two scoreless innings in relief.

Post 27 starter Dylan Hensley was almost untouchable for five innings giving up just one hit and walking just on hitter but with his pitch count elevating he had to leave the game with two outs in the sixth inning having surrendered two runs.

Bryce Bustamante came on and retired Ben Bucklew to end the inning but also surrendered at three run homer to pinch hitter Jacob Miller to tie the score at six.

The lightening and rain started at that point and with both teams looking at long road trips after game time the delays for the weather became a problem.

Along with Rentchlers two run double Post 27 was led by a two hit night by Matt Pritz.
