PLYMOUTH – The City of Plymouth will be undertaking a project to alleviate flooding issues on the city’s near north west.
Plymouth Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson came before the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety to seek permission to move ahead with a project to address the flooding issues in the 800 block of Harrison Street. Davidson told the members of the board the area has seen signifcant flooding numerous times in the past 15 years including three times this past year.
Davidson said that his department had looked at a number of solutions, starting with a reworking of the storm sewers in the area. He said that the price tag on such a project would be in the $1 million price range. Another projected solution would involve the purchase of two properties and the construction of a shallow retention pond to address the flooding.
Purchase of two houses, demolition and construction of the structure would have a projected price tag of around $74,000 for the purchase of the properties involved with demolition of those properties estimated at $20,000.
Davidson said money to begin the project was available in the city’s storm water depreciation cash fund. The Board gave Davidson unanimous approval to begin work on the project.
