MACOG_Active Transporation PlanIn March and April, residents throughout Marshall, Elkhart, Kosciusko, and St. Joseph counties will have the opportunity to participate in an important Active Transportation Plan sponsored by the Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG).  The Active Transportation Plan will help identify needs, resources, and strategies to improve and increase walking and bicycling in the region. The Plan builds upon local planning efforts and serves as the bicycle and pedestrian element of Michiana on the Move: 2040 Transportation Plan.

Public input is a crucial element for a successful plan and there are a variety of ways in which people can share their thoughts. MACOG has released an online survey and interactive map where people may provide preferences about walking and bicycling in the region as well as identify potential projects and areas of concern. To provide input, please visit www.macog.com/activetransportation. MACOG will also be attending a number of community events in which people can learn about the plan and take the survey. The information collected from the survey and interactive map will assist local engineers, planners, and elected officials in decision making for the Active Transportation Plan.

The draft plan will be out for public comment in June, where residents will be able to review and discuss the plan. Once approved, the plan will provide a comprehensive strategy for the region, ensuring pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users are able to move around in a safe, connected and accessible environment.
