Continuing the mission of concern for community, Operation Round Up awards local non-profits with grants to support the work they do in the community. On Tuesday, April 26 the Marshall County REMC Operation Round Up board awarded six grants, totaling $ 6,200.
Heminger House received funding to assist with the purchase and installation of new appliances needed for their kitchen. Heminger House is committed to empowering victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. They prepare victims and their families so they can learn to make independent, productive choices, which will assist them with living independently in a healthy, positive and safe environment.
Indiana Youth Services/Indiana State Police received funding to help with their youth summer camp for children 11-14 years of age that are at risk youth. The Indiana State Police offers young people an exciting, up-close look at law enforcement and the criminal justice system through its youth camps. The camp is designed to help students gain respect for themselves and others through programs, which demonstrate the rewards of hard work and dedication. Marshall County Shooting Sports Club received funding to help offset the dues paid by participants. The 4-H shooting sports club provides instructions on shooting sports safety, as well as a fun environment for kids to learn and improve their skills.
Marshall County 4-H Swine received funding to help with replacing their current swine gates at the Marshall County Fair. The Marshall County 4-H Swine Committee empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults. The 4-H Swine committee strives to prepare young people to make a positive impact in their communities and the world.
Plymouth Arts Commission/Encore Performing Arts received funding to help pay for student’s tuition into the ArtSparks program. Its purpose is to ignite the creativity of students through the established elements of originality, fluency, flexibility, and elaborations. ArtSparks is sponsored by Encore Performing Arts, Inc. a non-profit organization striving to provide and enrich performing arts experiences for children and youth in Marshall County.
The Salvation Army received funding to support the Marshall County Service Extension’s Emergency Assistance Program. The Emergency Assistance Program provides emergency financial assistance to people in Marshall County who have unmet basic needs such as medical necessities, transportation, rent and mortgage. In addition, the Emergency Assistance Program provides referrals to organizations that can help clients overcome the barriers to self-sufficiency and become more aware of additional community resources.
The Operation Round Up program allows Marshall County REMC members to reach out to worthy causes in their community and work together to help others. Thank you to those members who round up their electric bill to the next highest dollar each month and to the Marshall County Community Foundation for making these donations possible. You have helped donate over $50,000 to organizations in the community!
The next round of grants will be awarded in July. Charitable organizations within the Marshall County REMC service territory are eligible to apply. The organization does not have to be a member of Marshall County REMC. Applications can be picked up at the REMC office or downloaded at www.marshallremc.com.
