According to Dr. Kate Kuenstler, “formation” is the key word in the title of her upcoming Lampen Lecture, “FORMATION OF THE HUMAN PERSON: Catholic Higher Education according to the Code of Canon Law.” The lecture will take place Wednesday, March 9th, 3 p.m. in room 231 of Ancilla College. Through the tenants of the Catholic Canon, Kuenstler reminds us, with passion that the responsibility of a higher education institution goes beyond developing a person academically. “It is about developing an emotional person – a spiritual person – who is able to live within society, who is influenced by and influences themselves, their family, their peers, their university, and their church,” said Kuenstler.
Kuenstler is a Poor Handmaid of Jesus Christ and alumna of Ancilla College (1970). Having extensive experience in Catholic Education and Catechesis she served as Teacher, Director for Parish Faith Formation, and Diocesan Director for Religious Education. She has a BA in Education from Calumet College, and an M.A. in Theology from Aquinas College. She defended her dissertation (1995) receiving J.C.D. Canon Law from the Pontifical University St. Thomas Aquinas, Rome, Italy. She served for many years as Judge for Diocesan Tribunals. She now has a private practice advocating the rights of the laity to the Vatican and Diocesan Bishops.
The Lampen Lecure series was designed to combine the universality of the Catholic Church, the international character of the PHJC, and the Earth Charter, which is a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society. Named for Sr. Joel Lampen, Ancilla’s first president, the Lampen Lecture series was initiated by Sr. Carleen Wrasman in 2005.
