After serving House District 17 for four years, State Rep. Tim Harman (R-Bremen) is retiring from the Indiana General Assembly. Monday, House Republicans honored Harman for his years of service and commitment to improving the lives of those in Marshall and Fulton counties.
“My time in the General Assembly has been a wonderful experience,” Harman said. “I have enjoyed serving the people of District 17 immensely and I look forward to what’s next for me and my family.”
During his time in the Indiana House of Representatives, Harman served as vice-chairman of the Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee, and a member of the Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee and the Government and Regulatory Reform Committee.
“As a small-business owner, Tim brought a helpful perspective to our caucus and served as a great resource on many of our committees,” House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) said. “He is a great public servant and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
As the founder and president of Harman Restaurants Inc., owner of three Subway franchises and four company branded pizzerias, Harman has advocated for fellow entrepreneurs.
He is a philanthropist, including donating sporting goods and other items to the Special Olympics of Indiana. He was named “Champion of Prosperity” from one of the largest grassroots economic organizations, Americans for Prosperity.
He is a husband and father to four children: Matthew, Thomas, Abby and Molly. Harman is a member of a number of different civic organizations including Kiwanis, Plymouth, Bremen and Nappanee Chambers of Commerce, Marshall County Right to Life and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Harman is also known for drafting a law establishing a donation option for Indiana’s public schools when filing tax forms.
“Hoosiers can conveniently donate to the K-12 education fund in Indiana by filling out the Schedule 5 credit/donation form and including it with their income tax form,” Harman said. “This money cannot be designated to a specific school in Indiana, but this is a simple way for people to give back to their community and support the kids who will one day be tomorrow’s leaders.”
Harman said Hoosiers can find the donation area listed under “Public K-12 Education Fund” on their 2016 tax forms this year.
“I appreciate the friendships I have made here while in office and I am honored by the resolution presented to me today,” Harman said. “I am grateful to have been a public servant here in the House Republican Caucus and I wish every member the very best.”
