SchoolBoard_Riverside artRiverside Intermediate School art teacher, Elyse Chudzynski, and three of her 6th grade students shared their love of art with the Plymouth School Board on February 2. Students Aumrie Weiss, Makenna Manring, and Regan Watkins are three of the students who opted to take the nine week art classes during the time set aside for SOAR at the school. According to Principal Jeni Hirschy, students can enroll in classes such as art or physical education during the special time.

Chudzynski, in her fifth year teaching at Riverside, explained that students research an artist of their choice and then create a project. She said, “They look to the artist for inspiration.” She said students themselves decide the project they want to work on and even what materials they would like to use.

According to Chudzynski, students use a variety of materials such as weaving, photography, clay and paints.

Watkins displayed her “Henna on Rabbit Hide” project. She said, “This is my favorite special (class).  Manring showed her completed cat likeness created in clay, while Weiss exhibited her clay faces and other projects.

Students in the classes are part of an art exhibit that is set up at the school at the end of the nine-weeks.
