The Plymouth School Board voted 4-0 during their meeting on April 12 to amend a contract and addendum with the Plymouth Park Department along with a resolution to provide additional support for tennis facilities.
Board member Melissa Christensen was absent from the meeting.
According to Superintendent, Daniel Tyree, the school corporation had pledged $250,000 some three years ago to the project to build new tennis courts in the park. The Plymouth Schools lease the tennis facilities and other sports related areas in Centennial Park as a part of their athletic offerings.
At this point, the Plymouth School Corporation will use an additional $250,000 from their Rainy Day Fund towards the project. The money will be repaid as a part of the yearly lease agreement. Currently the lease amount is $24,000. That amount will increase by $1,000 every three years.
Repayment will be at $10,000 per year for 25 years.
Tyree indicated that the cost of the project in terms of both labor and materials has increased over the three year period and additional funding was needed.
Tyree said the project would not affect the girl’s tennis season, but would affect at least one half of the boy’s season. Both the John Glenn and Northwood Schools have offered to let Plymouth athletes use their courts as needed.
