Head_2013Lawmakers are continuing to address the various issues that surround Indiana’s meth epidemic.

This past week, the Senate considered two proposals aimed at ending meth production in Indiana:

Senate Bill 80, which Senator Randy Head authored was modeled after a program in Fulton County, and would keep products containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, the key ingredients in making meth, behind the counter and require pharmacists to conduct a brief consultation with patients who would like to purchase them.

Senate Bill 161 would require individuals convicted of drug felonies to get a prescription to purchase ephedrine or pseudoephedrine products.

Senator Head said, “These two bills would work together to prevent meth producers from obtaining the ingredients to make meth, while ensuring that law-abiding citizens have access to medications they need.”
