The United Way of Marshall County (UWMC) honored those who help the organization meet needs in the community at its annual awards event.
Companies who ran successful United Way campaigns and individual who contributed in various ways were honored at the Plymouth Community Church (PCC) on Thursday, April 28.
The annual campaign raised $450,000 in 2015 to support 24 nonprofit organizations and programs and services that focus on the building blocks for a better life: education, financial stability and health. Featured United Way–supported programs included the 2-1-1 information and referral service, FamilyWize Prescription Discount Cards, Project Lead The Way, the Marshall County Career Success Coalition, Kindergarten Countdown and Marshall County Promise.
Honorees were:
Susan Wagner was honored as the Volunteer of the Year. Wagner served on the campaign chair teams in 2014 and 2015. Her energy, passion and persistence during the 2015 campaign were praised by the event’s MC and UWMC Past President, Francis Ellert.

Small Industry – US Granules Corporation
Large Industry – American Containers
Plymouth High School National Honor Society was also recognized as Top Student Givers for their fundraising activities to support UWMC.
Tom Blackburn, UMWC President, praised the community for its support and highlighted efforts to continue to build a brighter future for Marshall County residents and communities. He noted that programs like Marshall County Promise have the potential to change the story for many young people, both those who may move away after graduation and those who choose to stay.
Blackburn closed the program by introducing Rodney Jacobs as the 2016 Campaign Chair. Plans are underway for a kickoff/fundraising event on Saturday, August 13, at Young Amphitheater at Centennial Park in Plymouth with Southern Straightaway as featured entertainment.
