The project team for the Reynolds Topeka Electric System Improvement Project is informing all the property owners, area residents and other stakeholders that have been following the project that transmission line construction is expected to begin in the next few weeks.
Committed to making this a safe project and minimizing any construction related inconvenience for property owners, NIPSCO will periodically release information on this 2-year project that will install 100 miles of new electric transmission line from Reynolds to Burr Oak and on to Topeka.
While construction is scheduled to begin now, depending where you are located along the right-of-way you may not see construction activity begin immediately.
Preconstruction activity along the right-of-way such as clearing of trees and most vegetation, surveying and staking of the 200 foot wide right-of-way and installation of soil erosion control measures has been on going.
As the project moves into the construction phase of the project residents will see the installation of construction roads, delivery of equipment and materials, excavating for foundations, erection of the transmission poles and the stringing of electrical wires.
This project will improve the reliability of the electrical system grid for NIPSCO, create new jobs for local supplies and increase business opportunities, improve access to renewable energy sources and open the market to more competitively priced electricity.
