FootballStadium_3Plymouth Community School Corporation Superintendent, Dan Tyree appeared before the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals Tuesday evening to present his case for a variance of development standard.

The new bleachers at the Plymouth High School stadium will be wrapped with a windscreen that would be esthetically pleasing and also help block wind for fans sitting in the stands.  Because the material is made of banner material, the school corporation had to seek a variance to allow the bleacher wrap to be permanently installed, which would be a violation of the city code which only allows 60 consecutive days.

The bleacher wrap will say “Welcome to the Rockpile” and wrap around the metal structure used to support the bleachers and hide the infrastructure from the parking lot. Tyree said the installation process is extensive and expensive and uses a track system that allows the banner tension to be tightened when necessary.

After some discussion on whether the wrap was actually a banner or part of the structure the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously granted the variance.
