The Marshall County Recorder’s Office will move forward with plans for electronic document filing following a favorable motion from the county commissioners at Monday’s morning.
Last week County Recorder Marlene Mahler received support from the county council to work with e-recording provider Simplifile and present the proposal to the commissioners.
Linda Morrison from the recorder’s office told the county commissioners this week the plan is to begin e-recording documents that only need to go through the recorder’s office. Once the staff is trained and comfortable the plan it to open up electronic filling to the auditor and assessor.
Plans are for the Recorders office to go online in April and later this year the other county offices
There is no cost to the county. A fee will be paid by the professionals submitting documents such as banks, lenders, credit unions, mortgage companies, title companies, law firms and developers.
During the 8 years Simplifile has been in Indiana there have been no security breaches, no issues and never had a county decide not to continue.
There are already 62 counties allowing e-recording in the state at this time. Marshall is only one of 30 counties not offering the service.
