Sgt Jason Nemeth MemorialThe 6th Annual Sgt. Jason Nemeth Memorial 5K run/walk will be held this Saturday, June 3rd at 10 a.m.  The start and finish is at the Hoosier Old Wheels Pavillion in Centennial Park on Randolph Street.

Jason Nemethgraduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 2003, and from Ball State University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice in 2008.   While in college he joined the Army National Guard in 2006 and was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 151st Infantry.  He was deployed to Afghanistan in August of 2009 for a 10 month tour. During this time the Company participated in several combat missions, including one for which Nemeth was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device.  From that moment forward Nemeth experienced severe Post Tramatic Stress Disorder, including ongoing nightmares.  When the Company returned to the United States June 2010 Sgt. Nemeth sought help through the Indiana National Guard to assist him in dealing with his emotional challenges, but to no avail.

On June 29th, 2011 Nemeth committed suicide at the age of 26.

A 5K run/walk will be held this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Nemeth’s memory, starting at the Hoosier Old Wheels.  Donations to participate will be accepted in any amount, and all will go toward a scholarship fund in Nemeth’s name at Plymouth High School.  Drinks and snacks will be provided.

Three quilts will also be raffled off with proceeds benefiting the Jason Nemeth Scholarship Fund in the Marshall County Community Foundation.  Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20.
