Commissions Approve Delayed Payment for Court Office Work

May 18, 2017

County News_logoMarshall County Commissioners voted 2 to 1 on Monday to continue holding a check for work not yet completed in Marshall Superior Court II.

Judge Dean Colvin said the design work in his office happened late last year and half of the payment was sent to the company.  He said the claim for the second half of the payment was submitted and approved in December but the company has drug their feet at completing the final punch list.

County Auditor Julie Fox has been holding the check since December but told Colvin she couldn’t hold payment any longer without approval from the commissioners.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said the claim should not have been submitted if you didn’t want it paid.

Commissioner Kurt Garner said he understood the idea of holding back a portion of the payment until the job was complete and commissioner Mike Delp agreed with him.

The commissioners voted 2 to 1 to withhold payment for 15 more days.  Colvin said he would contact the company and get them to finish up the punch list in the allotted time.
