ISP_Det HovarterIndiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter recently announced the reclassification of Trooper Ryan R. Hovarter to the position of detective. Detective Hovarter earned his assignment to Field Investigations through completion of written testing and a competitive interview process.

Hovarter, a six year veteran of the Indiana State Police, graduated from LaVille High School in Lakeville and later attended Ancilla College where he earned an associate of science degree in criminal justice.

Hovarter graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in March 2011, and was assigned to the Lowell Post in North West Indiana. While working at the Lowell Post Hovarter’s patrol duties included Starke, Pulaski, La Porte, and Porter Counties.

During his time with the state police Hovarter has served as a field training officer (FTO) and is also a firearms instructor for the department. Hovarter is an instructor for the department’s active shooter program (URASE unarmed response to active shooter event), and is a trained background investigator.

Detective Hovarter is married and lives in Starke County wife his wife and daughter.
