BREMEN – A hot start for Bremen’s Lady Lions proved to be too much for LaVille as the Lady Lancers fell on the road by a final of 44-33 Tuesday.

“I was impressed with how we came out from start to finish,” said Bremen coach Alex Robinson. “I thought we had a few plays offensively go our way that gave us some confidence. I thought we were getting out on their shooters well from the start of the game, and I think that set the tone.”
“We waited for the second half to play,” said LaVille head coach Corey Duncan. “Bremen came out with an intensity that they wanted to win the game. We didn’t match that intensity. Once we hit the second half, we started to match that intensity but it was too little, too late.”
The Lady Lancers who had a red-hot shooting night in their last outing, but fell cold for the game shooting just 2-9 in the first quarter and giving the Lady Lions and Karlee Feldman the boost they would need to take the win.
Feldman had a stellar first half with 20 points and nine rebounds on her way to a double/double of 25 points and 15 boards.
“She can do it all,” said Robinson. “Everybody knows it. The key is that she has to know it. In that first half she absolutely had her confidence. She was handling the ball taking it to the basket, shooting a couple threes.”
“She did an awesome job crashing the boards,” said Duncan, “just playing really hard. That’s what you have to have out of your big kids.”
LaVille found a way in the second half to slow down Feldman but Bremen found enough to match the Lady Lancers and take the win.
Freshman Haylie Rodriguez had a solid floor game with five points, 10 rebounds and a pair of assists and steals. Kaelyn Shively added three steals and seven points.
“They weren’t going to let Carly go for another 20 in the second half,” said Robinson. “And to have our young group forced into some situation where they have to handle the ball or take some shots that’s great for us right now.”
LaVille spread it around offensively with Shelfie Zeiger, Lindsey Aschenbrenner and Aryn Eash each scoring eight points. Aschenbrenner led the Lady Lancers with four steals and five rebounds.
After a big opening night win, Duncan is looking to how her team responds.
“How are we going to react to our next game?” she said. “That’s going to be something that we are really going to push in practice.”
Bremen is 1-1 on the season and will play Friday night at South Bend Clay. LaVille is 2-1 and will be in action at Oregon-Davis Thursday.
