Dragon FlyDid you know that a dragonfly spends the vast majority of its life underwater?  Only after a year or more of development does it blossom into the beautiful, acrobatic adult we see flying along streambanks.  It is precisely such dependence on water that makes the dragonfly a good indicator of a stream’s health.

If this sounds interesting and you would like to learn more about aquatic life and other aspects of water quality, then join the Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation Distict at the Hoosier Riverwatch workshop on July 22nd from 8:30 – 4:00.

In this introductory-level workshop you will discover the meaning of water quality and how to measure it.  Many scientific concepts will be covered, but at a level that a non-scientist can certainly understand! This workshop is appropriate for middle school to adults and could be a great family event.  After attending this training you will be prepared to perform your own stream analysis as a Hoosier Riverwatch volunteer and may submit data to the online database (www.HoosierRiverwatch.com).

The only things you need for this workshop are a sense of adventure, a desire to learn, shoes that can get wet (or waders) and your lunch.

To register or request more information please contact the Marshall County SWCD office at 574-936-2024 x 3 or visit our website at www.marshallcountyswcd.org.
