From Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the opening week’s pairings were made this evening for the 42nd Annual IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament presented by the Indiana Fever and Indiana Pacers. Sectional games are scheduled to begin Tuesday, Jan. 31, and run through Saturday, Feb. 4, with the regional round slated for Feb. 11 and semi‐states on Feb. 18. The four state championship games that make up the state finals will be played at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 25. Class 4A top‐ranked North Central of Indianapolis drew home‐standing Warren Central in Sectional 10. North Harrison, the top‐ranked team in Class 3A and last year’s state runner‐up, will take on Silver Creek in the opening game of Sectional 30 at Corydon Central. Whitko, the top‐ranked team in Class 2A, is matched up with Fremont in the first game of Sectional 35 at Central Noble. Argos, the top‐ranked team in Class A and last year’s state runner‐up, drew a bye into the semifinals and will await the South Central‐South Bend Career Academy winner in Sectional 51 at Culver Community. Among last year’s state champions, Class 4A ninth‐ranked Penn will begin defense of its crown against Goshen, the host of Sectional 4. Class 3A third‐ranked Heritage Christian, which has won three consecutive state championships and 20 consecutive tournament games will take on Delta in Sectional 24 at Tipton. Lafayette Central Catholic, winner of two consecutive state titles but unranked in the current Class 2A poll, drew the bye in Sectional 38 and will meet the South Vermillion‐Covington winner in the semifinals. Defending Class A champion and third‐ranked Jac‐Cen‐Del will play host to Waldron in Sectional 60 in a Wednesday first round game.
