DONALDSON, IN – The Ancilla College Women’s Basketball Team’s season came to an end in the semi-final round of the NJCAA District G Tournament after a tough loss to Kalamazoo Valley Community College, 73-53.

To begin the tournament week, Ancilla headed to Harrison, MI to play Mid-Michigan Community College in the quarter-final round where they defeated the Lakers 77-43.

Leading for Ancilla was Quaynika Merriweather with 17 points and nine rebounds. Daitriona Bonds and Karson Williams each added 11 points for the Chargers and Khalilah Abdullah put up 10.

“We probably played one of the best games of the year against Mid-Michigan,” said head coach Tom Robbins. “Our players were very motivated to get to the semi-finals of the region tournament. Our pressure defense really overwhelmed their ball-handlers and the pace at which we played took a toll on the team leading to the 24-6 4th quarter run we had.”

In the Semi-Final round, Ancilla was defeated by Kalamazoo Valley 73-53 with Quaynika Merriweather leading for Ancilla with 17 points while Donshelle Daniels had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

“Kalamazoo Valley seemed like a team on a mission against us,” commented Robbins. “They jumped on us early and held us off late into the game. I was proud of the way our players came out in the third quarter. We were down 22 points at half time and were able to get it within 10 by the start of the fourth. However, we weren’t able to cut into the score any further in the fourth. They showed why they are the 5th rated team in the nation.”

The team ended the season with a 17-14 record. Donshelle Daniels was named to the All-Western Conference 2nd Team. Quaynika Merriweather received All-Western Conference 3rd Team and Donshae Daniels was named to the Western-Conference All-Freshman Team.
