ARGOS — The Lady Dragons dominated Kankakee Valley’s Kougars Tuesday night in girls soccer, 5-0.

Samantha Stone broke open the scoring for Argos, about a half hour into the game.

Morgan Dunlap scored two minutes later, and Morgan Baldwin scored 10 minutes after that off an assist by Stone. Dunlap scored two more times to finish the night.

“I thought we played very very well tonight,” said Argos head coach Joe Stone. “The back four played well no matter who I put in there. Our offensive diagonal runs were great and we were able to slide several goals into the back of the net.”

Dunlap had an extra shot on goal and Stone had two. Abby Manikowski had one save for Argos.

Stone said his expectations going into the season opener were to just play a good game of soccer. “They exceeded my expectations by far,” he said. “I just wanted them to play hard for the whole 80 minutes and I was very impressed.”

Argos took eight total shots on goal, to the Kougars’ two. Reverse that for the fouls – Argos had only two while KV had eight. The Kougars were issued one yellow card for a slide tackle, the only card in the game.

Moving forward to Thursday’s rivalry game against Plymouth, Stone said, “Tomorrow will be a regeneration and healing day, recouping, getting ready. We will make sure the defense is ready and working on our touches the best we can.”

Argos’ JV team won its match earlier 4-3, and starts at 5 p.m. Thursday prior to the varsity game at Plymouth.
