Lion's_Dean Byers Christina PeppleDean Byers, Executive Director of the Habitat for Humanity gave an informative review of The Habitat for Humanity of Marshall County at last month’s meeting of the Plymouth Lions Club.  Their Vision…a world where everyone has a decent place to live.  Their Mission Statement…Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.  Founded in Americus, Georgia in 1976, Habitat for Humanity today has helped build, renovate and repair more than 600,000 decent, affordable houses sheltering more than 3 million people worldwide.  They have more than 2 million volunteers in 70 different countries.

The Marshall County chapter of Habitat for Humanity was started in 1998 after the habitat for Humanity approved the local affiliate on June1, 1998.  The first partner home was completed in 1999 and to date 19 homes have been built which equals over 1 million dollars in tax money for Marshall County.  Byers added the ReStore generates enough revenue to build a house each year.

The Mission of Habitat’s ReStore consists of three major points:

  1.  They seek to supply the community with low-cost home improvement materials.
  2. They seek to keep reusable building materials from going to the landfill.
  3. They seek to financially support Habitat for Humanity of Marshall County.

The Habitat for Humanity is looking for building lots and would like to express that volunteers and donations are always welcomed and accepted.  The Club was honored to have with them the next new owner of a Habitat Home, Christina Pepple.  She explained to all in attendance what this has meant to her and her daughter.  She, herself, will put over 350 hours of hard work into building her home, and she loves every minute of it.
