MYRTLE BEACH, SC – A seventh inning rally came up just short for Ancilla’s Chargers as they fell to Penn State Mont Alto on Monday night by a 6-5 final.
Disaster struck nearly immediately for Ancilla as sophomore starter Jacob Roberson had to be removed from the game just five pitches into the game with a serious arm injury. Called into duty without warning Brandon Dagley came on to pitch an outstanding game going four innings scattering four hits and left with the game tied in the fifth.
Bryce Bustamante came on and extricated the Chargers from a jam in that inning but two hits in the sixth scored the lead run for Mont Alto and brought on Blane Bender in relief to finish.
Behind 6-3 in the seventh the Chargers plated two but couldn’t push across the tying run. Dante Granger had a pair of hits including a double.
