The 8th grade girls basketball “A” team played in the Ben Franklin tournament in Valparaiso on Saturday.  The Red Storm opened up against Rensselaer in the morning matchup and displayed excellent ball movement on the offensive end and steadfast defensive pressure that lead to their 40-9 victory.  Tallulah Gault poured in 12 points, Lindsay Janus dropped in 10 and Makenzie Dejarnatt knocked in 6.  Miranda German added 5, Emma Cook notched 4 points while Olivia Horvath and Mia Wojcik rounded out the scoring with 2 each.  Janus, Madison Stiles, Cook, German and Horvath added two assists apiece.  German snagged a season high 6 steals while Janus and Horvath had 4 steals each.  

 
In the afternoon game, Lincoln took on the host Ben Franklin in the championship game.  The Red Storm withstood a slow start in the first period and used fluid ball movement, timely scoring and solid half court defense as they captured the tournament championship for the second consecutive year 35-22.  Janus and Gault led the scoring with 10 points each while Cook, Stiles and Wojcik added 4 points and Horvath closed out the scoring with 3 points.  Stiles dominated the glass with 6 rebounds and Horvath added three tough rebounds in the contested paint.  Cook sliced up the defense with three assists.  Dejarnatt, Cook, Gault, Horvath and Stiles nabbed two steals each.  The tournament wins raises their season record to 9-0.  The Red Storm ladies return to action Wednesday (2/15) at home against Culver at 6pm.
The 7th grade girls traveled to Ben Franklin in Valpo for another tourney this weekend. The girls held their own against a tough and physical Rensselaer team but fell short by the final buzzer, 33-41. In the consolation game against Grimmer from Lake Central the girls came out with an early lead that they kept all 4 quarters to win 32-16. Sydney Rice was top scorer with 20 points on the day. Lauren Rumpler had 9, Hannah Friberg, Lexi Rose, and Keiara Himes each had 6. Guad Jimenez, Kami Burkett, Sara Hunter, Leah Tanner, Summer South and Clare Sheedy all got on the board as well. Aumrie Weiss and Olivia Newcomb provided strong defensive help and attacked the boards on rebounds.
