The boys 6th Grade A and B team traveled to Tippy Valley over the weekend to play in the Tippy Valley Middle School Tourney. Both teams won the tournament and brought home the hardware.

The 6th Grade B team started it off by winning their first game against Wabash, 37-16. Rebounding and defense was the key in this game. Wabash was limited to one shot per possession, which allowed the Rockets to pull ahead early and get the easy victory. The B team was led in scoring the first game by Connor Schmeidlin with 8 points. Shane Abberger added 7 and Noble Bockman chipped in 6 points. Off the bench, William Gamble and Hunter Shephard both had 4 points and Dominic Giordano, Dillon Davidson, Michael Sheeley, and Fitz Holm all had 2.
In the Championship game against tourney host Tippy Valley, the Rockets again jumped out to an early lead and ended the first quarter up 6-0. The Vikings came out in the 2nd quarter and applied more pressure and pressed the Rockets causing some easy turnovers and confusion and tying the game going in to half time 8-8. Some key halftime adjustments by Coach Justin Cunningham helped the Rockets and his team came out and took a 21-13 lead by the end of the 3rd. The Rockets B Team would hang on to the victory and come away as Tourney Champs with a 27-16 win over Tippy Valley. In the Championship game, Connor Schmeidlin led the Rockets with 6 points. Dillon Davidson, Shane Abberger, Michael Sheeley, and Hunter Shephard each had 4 points. Noble Bockman and William Gamble added 2 and Dominic Giordano had 1. The B Team finished the season with 13 wins and only 1 loss.
The 6th Grade A team followed the B team’s lead and won their first game against Wabash, 43-14. High pressure and picking Wabash up full court caused some confusion and easy baskets. Easton Strain led the Rockets with 13 points. Davis Wray added 8 and Timmy Wakeland had 6. Trey Hall had 5 points and Brock Jensen had 4. Nolan Bales chipped in 3 points and Kavan Holm and Roman Snedeker both had 2. Everyone on the Rockets scored in the first game due to good ball movement and finding the open player.
In the Championship game, things started off slowly for the Rockets. Come out tired, the Vikings were able to jump out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. An early time out by Coach Joshua Overmyer helped calm the Rockets down and they finished the game on a 30-9 run. Great ball movement and patience by the A team was key in this victory. The boys moved the ball the best they have all season and waited for the open shot. Nolan Bales got in to early foul trouble and other had to step up, but the team played well and everyone did their role. Davis Wray led the Rockets in scoring in the championship game with 10 points. Roman Snedeker added 7 and Easton Strain chipped in 6 points. Trey Hall, Timmy Wakeland, and Brock Jensen both had 2 and Kavan Holm chipped in 1. The A team finished the season 12-2 with their 2 losses coming in the first 2 games and finishing on a 12 game winning streak. Great season for both teams.
