The Plymouth High School student LEAD Club will present Operation Prom, a mock crash to illustrate the dangers of drinking and driving in front of Plymouth High School on Friday, April 27, at 10 a.m.; the day before this year’s PHS prom.
There will be a rescue helicopter (weather permitting) that will take an injured student away, EMS, County and City Police, lights and sirens will be activated to and from the scene.
The Marshall County coroner will be on-site, to pronounce a student dead at the accident scene. Cops will arrest the drunk driver, etc.
PHS LEAD club has done similar mock situations to hit home with their peers to not drink and drive prior to prom… however, this mock situation generally provokes more emotion because of the elaborateness of the mock scenario.
Students will learn about Operation Prom when a police dispatch call dispatching EMS crews to a drunk driving crash in front of Plymouth High School is played over the school’s PA system while students are in their third hour classes. The synopsis will continue playing out from there once students are outside.
The Plymouth High School Prom is the following day on Saturday, April 28 at the South Bend Century Center from 8 p.m.-12 a.m.
LEAD is the local version of SADD. Years ago Plymouth High School decided to form Leader’s Eliminating Alcohol and Drugs. This group has existed for more than 20 years. The club does activities to promote a drug and alcohol free lifestyle as well as provide a resource for like-minded students in this pursuit.
