City Council Approves New Fee Ordinance on Final Reading

July 24, 2018

Plymouth Color Logo2014Monday evening the Plymouth Common Council passed an ordinance modifying a number of fees in the various city departments.

After tabling the ordinance at their last meeting to allow council members and department heads a final review of proposed fines, the council passed the 16 page ordinance on final reading.

Just prior to approving the ordinance, Councilman Gary Cook proposed an amendment that would require the Common Council to review the fee ordinance every two years.

Councilman Don Ecker Jr. said he liked the idea, especially knowing that some of the rates that were changed with this ordinance had been in place for 10, 12, 15 and even 20 years.

Cook said reviewing the ordinance on a regular basis would alleviate having such substantial increases.

Department heads attending the council meeting agreed a review every two years.

Cook suggested, since it’s already half way through the year, the review process would begin in 2021 prior to the budgeting process.

Council members unanimously approved Cook’s amendment and the Fee Ordinance.

The ordinance must be published prior to going into effect.
