Susan Ring is a Storyteller through her Art

July 31, 2018

Heartland-Gallery-logoSusan Ring, Heartland’s featured artist for the month of August has this to say about herself and her art … “Me? It is not about me … when I create art, I am scratching an itch that God put deep down in my heart. Art is the feeling of comfort and fulfillment after spending time lost in painting.

A storyteller I will always be. This trait echoes back to my deep family and farming roots. My choice of subject matter depends totally upon the spark of inspiration. It could be anything from a rusty abandoned truck to beautiful reflections in a glass display or the reflection of a small town in the hood of a car, or just God’s beauty that surrounds us everyday. I strive to capture a viewer’s attention and draw them into my artwork.

My goal is to paint using my heart along with my mind. I feel that is when I will find the magic I wish to portray through my artwork”.

Susan is a homegrown girl from northern Indiana and now resides in North Manchester. She attended John Herron School of Art, Indianapolis. Since 2000 she has continued her education by attending various work-shops by nationally known artists which took her art to a new level. Watercolors, oils and pastels are her favorite mediums. While her approach is traditional, there are surprising passages of intense color in her style. Susan’s watercolors express her love of drawing, while her passion for color and motion translate through her oils and pastels.
