Coroner Releases name of Winamac Ccmmunity Middle School Killed in Bus Crash

Bus crash US 31 and RR 13th Road_2Marshall County Coroner, John Grolich released the name of the Winamac student killed in the school bus crash on US 31 Wednesday, December 5th.

At approximately 9:06 a.m. the Marshall County 911 Call Center was notified of a collision between a school bus and a straight truck, at the railroad crossing north of 14th Rd on US 31. The school bus was occupied by 38 eighth grade students and three chaperones from Eastern Pulaski Community Schools who were traveling to Warsaw to see a Christmas musical. A teenaged male student seated at the rear of the bus was killed on impact. One other student was injured and airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. His injuries are believed to be non life threatening.

Plymouth Community School Corporation assisted by transporting a number of students to the St Joseph Hospital Regional Medical Center, Plymouth Campus, for medical evaluation and reunification with family members.

Thirteen year old Owen M. Abbott was pronounced dead at the scene; cause of death is multiple blunt force traumas. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Thursday, December 6 2018.

Assisting at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Marshall County Sheriff Department, Med Flight, Argos Police, INDOT, Plymouth Fire and EMS, Tri-County EMS, Plymouth Community School Corporation, Marshall County Coroner, John Grolich and Deputy Coroner, Bobby Cooper.
