The Annual Fishing Derby at Potawatomi Wildlife Park has been a tradition for many. Some families are in their third generation of attendance. The atmosphere is laid back fishing vs the more intense tournament style.
For a modest fee, families and individuals can enjoy a morning of fishing and quality family time on a pond that is usually reserved for organized youth group fishing. Hotdogs, chips and beverages are available for purchase at family friendly prices. Proceeds from sales and registration help cover costs including awards and door prizes. Any additional funds raised support other general park programs.
New this year are kayak fishing team members representing Jackson Kayak and Native Watercraft. Fluid Fun of Bristol, the regional kayak and canoe dealer serving the area, will also be present. They will be working with the kids, and be available to talk about kayak fishing and kayaks in general. Fishing stories are sure to be exchanged as well!
Those not interested in fishing but have questions on kayak are encouraged to come and talk with the representatives during the morning’s event on Saturday, September 22 from 8AM – 12 noon.
