NewsYears ago Dr. Susan Bardwell approached Plymouth’s own Rick and Barb Miller about making her wish of having an indoor pool back in Plymouth become a reality.
That wish is about to come true as ground will be broken in just a few weeks on a state-of-the-art 27,000-square foot aquatics center named the Dr. Susan Bardwell Aquatics Center.
Dr. Bardwell, a pediatrician who lost her battle with cancer in 2012 and a dear friend of the Millers, has to be smiling down from above when looking at the plans for what will simply be one of the best swimming facilities in the state of Indiana.
Aquatic Center_mapThe Aquatics Center will be a two-story building located at 2740 Miller Drive on the west side of Plymouth, just south of US 30 (see map below).
Aquatic Center_1st floorThe Aquatics Center will include 10 lanes, 25 yards long for competition swimming (see drawings below) and will have approximately 500 seats for spectators in its second deck. In addition, there will be 2 1-meter diving boards for competition.
The facility, which has a price tag of $11 million, will be equipped with locker rooms, restrooms, team meeting rooms, an office and a concession stand and other amenities.
The public, Plymouth schools and Ancilla College will all have access to the facility.
Construction on the project is expected to last 13 months.
The Dr. Susan Bardwell Aquatics Center is expected to open in the summer of 2019.
