Veteran benefits, health care and elder laws can be complicated to understands. Do you know where you can go for help? The Center at Donaldson is holding a workshop, Are You Benefiting from your Benefits? on Tuesday, September 25 from 9:30-3:00 p.m. ET in Cana Hall. Check in begins at 9:00 a.m. This is a free event open to the public and lunch is included.

The workshop is a collaboration between The Center at Donaldson and three organization designed to help a person navigate through complicated decisions such as healthcare, estate planning and veterans’ benefits.  Come for all or part of the workshop.

Pam Schweizer-Betz (Veteran’s Service Officer), Bill Hemmig (State Health Insurance Assistance Programs Representative), and Adam Lukenbill (Elder Care Attorney) will present information and answer questions. Participants who stay for lunch have an opportunity to take tours of The Center during their visit.

Pam Schweizer-Betz will explain the variety of benefits and services that Veteran Services offers to veterans, their dependents, and survivors. These include veterans’ compensation, pension, survivors’ benefits, rehabilitation and employment assistance, education assistance, home loan guaranties, and life insurance coverage.

Schweizer-Betz  has been the Veteran Service Officer for Marshall County since 2012 and assists between 3500 and 4500 veterans annually. She served in the Army as a Combat Medic attached to the 384th MP unit from 2010 thru 2012.

Rev. Dr. William R. Hemmig (Bill), from State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHiP) will share his expertise on medical insurance plans. SHiP is a free and impartial state service that helps seniors with their enrollment and annual review as well as applications for extra help through various state and federal programs.  SHiP counselors charge no fees for services and are not affiliated with any insurance provider.  They provide objective information to help people make the best decision for their own personal need.

Hemmig is a retired United Methodist pastor and seminary adjunct professor. In 2014, he began serving as a SHIP volunteer counselor.  He has also worked as a retirement home chaplain and a hospice spiritual care counselor.

Adam K. Lukenbill has counseled individuals, families, and businesses throughout northern Indiana since 2007. He focuses his practice on the areas of estate planning, farm and business succession planning, estate and trust administration, asset protection (including long-term nursing home planning), and representation of closely-held businesses. His experience includes preparing estate plans designed to minimize estate tax liability and/or to protect beneficiaries with special needs.

Lukenbill serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations. A native Hoosier, he resides in Plymouth, Indiana, with his wife and daughters.
