County news # 2On Monday, the Marshall County Commissioners approved moving forward with the purchase of two new pieces of equipment for the County Highway Department.

Jason Peters, Supervisor of the Highway Department told the commissioners he received two quotes for the chipper box and distributor truck used to chip and seal the roads.  He said one of the quotes did not meet all of the specification while the second quote did.

The quote from Southeastern Equipment Company of Fort Wayne was $313,500 for the chipper box and $227,800 for the distributor truck. The lease payments for the equipment will be paid out of the Cum Cap Development Fund.

Peters said instead of trading in the old chipper and distributor he said he believed he could sell the equipment on the Indiana Government Auction Service and get a better price than trading it in.

It was clarified that revenue received from selling the used equipment on the auction site would be used to reimburse the county’s Cum Cap Development Fund.

Peters said he expects to receive the equipment next year in April.
