Culver LibraryThe Culver-Union Township Public Library has received two technology grants with a combined total of over $5,000 to make research materials more readily available to patrons.

One grant will address updated software and a dedicated computer for the Minolta microfilm reader located in the computer lab; this upgrade will enhance the process of searching and saving items from the local newspaper preserved on microfilm for personal research purposes. The second grant will address digital access to the library’s necrology file; library patrons and remote users who are researching genealogy will be able view the local obituaries in Indiana Memory, a searchable database available globally. Both projects are supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Indiana State Library.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 35,000 museums. Their mission has been to inspire libraries and museums to advance innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural and civic engagement. For the past 20 years, their grant making, policy development, and research has helped libraries and museums deliver valuable services that make it possible for communities and individuals to thrive.
