The Salvation Army bell ringing season starts each November and runs through Christmas Eve, when the red kettles are packed away for the season. Volunteers are the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises about $30 per hour – enough to provide a family with two bags of groceries, or shelter an individual for a night.
In Marshall County Doug Kucera is the Director of the Salvation Army. He needs volunteers to ring the bells daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bell ringers are asked to volunteer for a 3 to 4 hour shift and can do just one shift or work multiple shifts over the holiday season. Those volunteering will be ringing at the local Walmart and Kucera encourages ringers to dress warmly. It can get pretty windy our front and very cold. It’s recommended you dress in layers incase the sun comes out and things warm up some.

When you give at a red kettle, you help improve lives. The money dropped in a kettle goes right back into our local community. The Salvation Army provides basic needs, housing, counseling and spiritual care to people in the community.
