U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly Monday welcomed major federal grants from the Department of Transportation to help five airports in Indiana support needed construction projects and improve operations.

Donnelly said, “These grants will help upgrade infrastructure at a number of airports across Indiana, improving the safety and efficiency of operations – fueling economic opportunities for local communities.”

Details on the federal grants from the Department of Transportation:

  • Indianapolis International Airport in Indianapolis:

o    $2.8 million in funding to rehabilitate 1,000 feet of Taxiway C4. Runway 12/30.

o    $630,000 in funding for replacing a fire and rescue vehicle.

  • South Bend International Airport in South Bend:

o    $1.985 million in funding to replace airfield guidance signage.

  • Grissom Municipal Airport in Bedford:

o    $86,000 in funding for snow removal equipment.

  • French Lick Municipal Airport in French Lick:

o    $210,000 in funding to support the final phase of pavement grooving to improve safety in adverse weather conditions.

  • Michigan City Municipal Airport in Michigan City:

o    $339,000 in funding for the final phase of planning on updates to the airport’s layout plan, including environmental impact studies.
