River Gate South building_1The Plymouth business community has asked for unique housing opportunities to attract young professionals and others to live, work, and play in the area. The upcoming River Gate South apartment development is responding to those needs. Business leaders and professionals got a sneak peek at the project through its exclusive first “hard hat” tour Wednesday afternoon.

Attendees previewed the development, which features 40 units in three separate buildings. They also had the chance to see the beautiful views of River Park Square and the Yellow River.

River Gate South_building4River Gate South was one of Marshall County’s first Regional Cities Initiative funded projects to break ground in July 2017. It was awarded approximately $1.5 million, fulfilling the goals of Regional Cities by attracting talent and improving quality of place. River Gate South will grow Plymouth’s professional population by offering a unique living environment unlike anything else in the area.

The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission is supporting the project with an approximately $1.4 million investment. The Plymouth City Council also recently approved a residential tax abatement for the property, one of the first in Marshall County, to further support the development.

River Gate South_building2According to Jerry Chavez, Marshall County Economic Development Corporation President/CEO, “This project is the cornerstone to Plymouth’s downtown revitalization. It has already lead to a pedestrian bridge being installed in February, connecting residents to River Park Square, beautifying the downtown, and improving walkability. Nearby businesses are also considering expansions and renovations to capitalize on new residents. With even more projects planned, such as the REES Theatre restoration, Plymouth is poised for a true downtown renaissance.”

River Gate South is the vision of INSITE Development, which also developed River Rock apartments in downtown Mishawaka. River Rock was constructed in 2016 and has already attracted many young professionals to the area. Plymouth will benefit from this past success with a well-designed development that provides the appropriate number of spacious one, two, and three-bedroom units, most having views of the Yellow River. River Gate South is on track to open at the end of September 2018.
