The Marshall County community is coming together to support flood relief with several events planned for Saturday, May 19. Volunteers working closely with the Marshall County Long Term Recovery Operations will be in River Park Square during the popular Farmer’s Market Saturday morning from 7:30 to 11:30. Dozens more will join them in the afternoon to prepare for the Flood Relief Benefit Concert that starts at 4 pm!
Slow Orbit, Lalo Cura, Babylon Sneakers, and Cool Change are four bands taking center stage at River Park Square to provide musical entertainment. The Ukulele Klub of Elkhart County and the Plymouth Juggling Club start this family-friendly event with a full line up of entertainment to follow. Food vendors and concessions will be available along with additional fun/fundraising activities including a bounce house, face painting, balloon sculpting and a photo booth.
Suggested donation at the gate is $5 per person or $20 per family. Tickets for food/activities are $1 each. Purchases can be made in advance at bit.ly/MCFloodReliefConcert2018 or onsite the day of the event.

Fifty homes were listed as destroyed or sustaining major damage from the historic February floods. Many families remain displaced.
“It has been heart-warming to see so many volunteers, sponsors and vendors stepping up to help with this event,” said Linda Yoder, Executive Director for United Way and of Long Term Recovery Operations. “All proceeds from the benefit and t-shirt sales will be used to help with unmet needs of families who have experienced loss.” Yoder noted that clean up and remediation work continues with help from disaster relief organizations.

Organizers for the Benefit Concert also applaud the work of young philanthropists from Washington Discovery Academy! WDA’s third graders are hosting a flood relief event the same day. Registration for the Flood the Park with Color Run begins at 8 am at Frymen Pavilion in Centennial Park. The 5k color race starts at 9 am. Proceeds from this event support flood relief in the park; students will work closely with the Parks Department in park rehabilitation.
