The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) was honored to receive the Government Entity Award from Serve Indiana on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at their annual Awards for Excellence Ceremony at the Indiana Historical Society.
This year marks the first time this category has been awarded, spurred by DOR’s volunteer program #DORGivesBack. These awards celebrate both individuals and organizations who inspire volunteerism to make a difference in their communities, and DOR was no exception.
DOR team members volunteered over 550 hours since January through the #DORGivesBack program by building homes for families with Habitat for Humanity, cleaning and landscaping properties for HVAF of Indiana and building bicycles for foster children with the Boys and Girls Club of Boone County Boys.
To encourage volunteerism through the #DORGivesBack initiative, Commissioner Adam Krupp set a goal to engage at least 20 percent of DOR staff in the agency-wide volunteerism program within its first year. Over the course of 2018, approximately 140 employees have participated in the program, giving back to Indiana communities in excess of Commissioner Krupp’s initial goal.
“DOR’s mission starts with the words ‘to serve’ and we take that very seriously,” said Commissioner Krupp. “Not only do we serve our customers on a daily basis but we make it a priority to serve our community through the #DORGivesBack program. Volunteerism brings us closer as an agency and allows the DOR team to give back to Hoosiers.”
