Green BusinessThe Recycle Depot and the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce are teaming to encourage businesses to conserve natural resources. Together they are launching a program call “Green Business Initiative”

By accessing a series of checklists, businesses can chart their progress and when completed, they can receive certification as a Marshall County Green Business. The developers of the initiative contend that the public tends to view a workplace responsible with its resources as a good corporate citizen. An extra advantage could be lower utility bills as the efforts increase to become more efficient and waste-conscious.

The checklist includes tips to get started such as recycling all paper, glass, metal, cardboard, and plastic accepted in your area or managing incoming and outgoing mail to stop unnecessary junk mail. They ask that business owners institute a policy that all electronic devices, lighting, and room cooling units be turned off when not in use and use light switch reminders to remind staff to turn them off.

To qualify, a business must be a member of the Chamber of Commerce. For more information or access the entire check list, business representatives can call the Marshall County Recycle Depot at 574-935-8618 or mpeters@myrecycledepot.org.
