Recycle Depot_Logo11-10-17The Marshall County Solid Waste Management District will be offering a free class on basic home composting on September 26 from 7-8 p.m. at the Recycle Depot, 1900 Walter Glaub Drive, Plymouth. The class is open to all ages. No composting experience is necessary. Compost bins will be available for sale, and each participant will receive a book on basic composting techniques and troubleshooting. The Depot worm composting bin will also be on display. The class will be taught by Marianne Peters, Depot director and Purdue-certified Master Gardener.

What is composting? Composting combines food scraps and yard waste to create free, rich fertilizer for plants. Composting keeps food waste out of the landfill and the waste water treatment plant. And composting creates rich soil for growing happy plants, whether vegetables or landscaping shrubs.

But you can still use a composter to help you dispose of unwanted food waste and to make enough fertilizer for your containers or houseplants.”

The Recycle Depot is Marshall County’s headquarters for recycling, household chemical and hazardous waste disposal, and environmental education. Compost bins and supplies, as well as rain barrel kits, are also available for sale. The Depot is located at 1900 Walter Glaub Drive, Plymouth, Indiana.
