Ancilla_JunoThe Nursing Program at Ancilla just got even better with the addition of a Juno training manikin. According to the company website, “Juno is a modern manikin that was designed to meet educational requirements for clinical nursing skills, from task training through advanced patient care scenarios.” A tool like this is extremely valuable in ensuring quality training for students of nursing.

Ancilla has currently been using an iStan that is several years old. While it is a good education tool, like any modern technology, it is a bit outdated. Juno is a state of the art simulation manikin. The iStan is immobile, whereas Juno can be easily transferred. The price of Juno is also much more cost-effective. Juno is also controlled by a tablet, versus a desktop, like iStan. Juno’s tablet also comes with 10 evidence based simulation exercises. “The use of simulation in nursing education has been proven to increase critical thinking skills and allows the students to practice nursing in an environment where they can make mistakes and learn from them,” said Nursing Program Director, Liz King.

The donation to purchase Juno came from Ms. Dorothy Weber who has been a consistent supporter of the college. “It all goes back to my time at Ancilla,” she said.  Weber was once a Sister of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and after graduating from Ancilla, went on to receive a doctorate in philosophy, a subject she taught at Ancilla. In 1975 she became a nurse and has not stopped caring for others or seeking knowledge. There are plans in motion to install a wall plaque near Juno, recognizing her support.

Ancilla College does all it can to make sure students have quality learning tools and is thankful for donors, like Weber, who place a high value on education.
