The Top Five Percent of graduating seniors at Plymouth High School were recognized by Principal Jim Condon on Friday morning at the Senior Awards Ceremony.
Mr. Condon said, “Each year we pass out what I would say is one of our most honored awards, the academic framed P.
The top five percent academically for the class of 2018 are: Olivia Emmons, Natalie Heart, Audrey Himes, Nathan LaFree, Kadin McCrammer, Grace Morris, Sydney Morris, Maggie Nate, Jaquelyn Peydado, McKenzie Sheetz, Leah Smith and Autumn Wilson.
Mr. Condon also presented the National Merit Finalist to Sydney Morris. He said, “The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition which recognizes and distributes college scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the national merit program by taking the PSAT exam which serves as the initial screening of approximately 1.6 million candidates each year. After multiple screenings the list of scholarship candidates is reduced to a semi finalist list and eventually to a finalist list. We are happy to say that Sydney Morris qualifies as one of 15,000 finalists from the more than 1.6 million who qualified. From this list of finalists, scholarships will be awarded to 8,000 students in the near future.” Condon congratulated Morris for her accomplishment.
Ms. Wezeman presented the QuestBridge Scholarship award to Loren Mattern on Friday. She said, “Every year more than 30,000 high achieving high school students from families of average means have the grades, standardized test scores and demonstrated the dedication to school and community to be eligible for admission to the nation’s most highly selected colleges. Yet, fewer than 20% of them apply. The QuestBridge College Match partners with 38 of these schools including Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Emery and the University of Pennsylvania to match deserving students with these prestigious schools and cover 100% of their college costs.” Mr Wezeman announced that Loren Mattern will be attending UPenn in the fall and has been admitted directly to the Wharten School of Business, the number one business school on the planet. Loren is receiving a full 4-year scholarship of greater than $290,000.
