Plymouth 12U Rebounds with Win

SYRACUSE, IN  The Plymouth 12U used a seven-run fifth inning to secure their first Boys of Summer conference victory. The ball game had an ominous start as the cool winds blew briskly through the Syracuse Kiwanis junior league field. The question, how would the Pilgrims respond to last Saturday night’s 11-1 defeat?

Wawasee jumped out to an early two run lead, plating two Warriors in the first inning. The Pilgrims would answer in the second and third innings tallying three runs on a Tre Jordan fielder’s choice RBI and a Beck Magee ringing two-run double.

The Warriors bounced back, after a walk, error and a timely hit by Jeff Vanhulst, they regained the lead, 4-3 closing out the fourth inning.

Plymouth’s bats exploded in the fifth inning, putting up seven runs on four walks and three hits. Caleb Bowling and Preston Wolfe used back-to-back doubles leading the massive fifth inning shellacking. To answer the question, the Pilgrims fought hard, and rebounded with a big win.

“After a rough opening night, the boys came out hungry to prove they are a better ball club than what they showed on Saturday,” said Coach Nick Chaney. “They responded tonight. It was a great indication of this young group’s character and competitiveness.”

Wolfe would then make his second pitching appearance of the year, coming in to relieve Jak Chaney, shutting the door for the team’s first victory, 14-5. Chaney started the game surrendering four runs on three hits, striking out six over four innings. Wolfe threw three innings in relief, giving up only one run while striking out seven Warriors.

“We got two good pitching performances tonight, but the offense was by far our biggest highlight,” proclaimed Chaney. “Up and down the lineup, all 12-boys put together good at bats, especially with two outs. Scoring 14-runs on 9-hits, against some good velocity pitching, was exciting to see.”

The Pilgrims hit the ball well, racking up nine hits in the game.  Ryan Gadziola and Chaney both had multiple hits for Plymouth 12U. Gadziola finished 2-for-4, batting in three runs. Magee, Bowling and Wolfe all added multiple RBI performances in the big win.

The Plymouth 12U, sponsored by Emergency Forklift Services, move to 1-1 on the season. They end their first full week of the season on Saturday, taking on Fairfield at 7pm, at the Ed Hess B-League field.
