The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) has approved Regional Cities Initiative funding to support two housing projects in Marshall County. Through the north central Indiana’s regional development planning, area job creators identified housing as an obstacle in attracting and retaining talent, with rental availability between one and two percent according to a recent market study.
“To sustain Indiana’s economic momentum, we’re committed to transforming communities across the state into destinations for talent through the Indiana Regional Cities Initiative,” said IEDC President Elaine Bedel. “These housing projects will help enhance the downtown areas in Bremen and Plymouth, attracting new residents and investing in north central Indiana’s growing workforce.”
SUNRISE MEADOWS
The Sunrise Meadows development, located at 2864 Miller Dr. in Bremen, will provide additional housing options to support north central Indiana’s workforce. Sunrise Meadows is within walking distance of Sunnyside Park, which features a community swimming pool, tennis and sand volleyball courts, baseball and softball diamonds, walking paths and a children’s playground.
Infrastructure for phase one of the project was recently completed, providing 26 home sites and a total of 50 when fully built. To date, two villas and six condos have been constructed, offering mid-level priced homes which could spur upward mobility for town residents. Plans are underway for two new homes to be built within the community in the spring of 2018.

“Our goal is to attract and retain talent to the Bremen community by providing quality condos and villas at Sunrise Meadows that will keep their value for years to come. By also offering lots for individuals looking to build their own homes, we can continue to invest in Marshall County’s workforce and build a better quality of place in north central Indiana,” said James Pomeroy, president of Rolling Meadows Development, which is leading the development.
RIVER GATE SOUTH
The River Gate South development will help attract talent to Plymouth by providing quality rental options. Located on the corner of South Michigan and East Lake streets, the project will feature a three-building, 45-unit apartment complex along the Yellow River on the south end of downtown Plymouth.
River Gate South will be connected by a scenic pedestrian bridge to the Greenway bike and walking trail and River Park Square, which features a concert amphitheater, a splash pad for neighborhood children and a farmer’s market on the weekends. The project will be completed in the summer of 2018.

Regional Cities Initiative in North Central Indiana:
These projects were recommended for funding by the South Bend-Elkhart Regional Development Authority (RDA) and are part of the region’s Smart Connected Communities plan, which outlines 39 regional development projects in three counties totaling $703 million in quality of place investments.
North central Indiana was one of three Indiana regions selected to receive state funding through the Regional Cities Initiative, which will allocate a total of $126 million toward 100 quality of place projects totaling more than $2 billion in combined state, local and private investment in order to retain and attract top talent to the Hoosier state.
