February 19, 2019

NewsJason Peters, the Superintendent of the Marshall County Highway Department gave the commissioners an update on the January and February distributions from the state.

The January distribution from the state for MVH (Motor Vehicle Highway) was $351,510.31 and LRS (Local Roads and Streets) received $65,928.61.   He told the commissioners the MVH was down $44,766.52 from last year while LRS was up $1,773.44.  Peters said in January the county highway department received $42,992.77 less this year than last year.

The February distribution from the state for MVH was $342,483.65 and LRS received $63,703.90.  Peters said the MVH Fund received $14,627.47 less in February this year than last year and the LRS Fund was down $2,613.75 for a total of negative of $17,241.22 in February.

There was also discussion of the DLGF’s (Department of Local Government Finance) new requirement that half of the MVH funds be placed in a new Restricted MVH fund.  Uses from this new fund are limited to construction, reconstruction and preservation.

Commissioner Stan Klotz said Peters will have to start counting the labor costs towards the projects using the Restricted Funds and not just material costs.  Peters said it will be a lot more work tracking and paying employees out of the separate fund.

Peters told the county commissioners he hopes to learn more about the restrictions on the new fund at the Purdue Road School.
