Redevelopment Commission Updated on REES Project

October 17, 2019

REES_Phase 3_1Tuesday evening Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi updated member of the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission on the Rees Theatre project.

REES_Phase3_2Currently the REES renovation project is in phase three of four. This portion includes removal and reconstruction of the back wall of the building, the installation of steel and a new roof.  They had already completed the foundation stabilization project.

The masonry work has been delayed because there was additional work required that wasn’t anticipated.  While there was concern the masonry work is slowing down the roof project, Surrisi said the roofing project should happen around Thanksgiving.

REES_Phase3_3Surrisi told member of the Redevelopment Commission volunteers have been helping on Saturdays removing some of the walls in the basement and carrying out 5 gallon buckets of rubble to the dumpster outside.

The City Attorney told commission members the REES was not successful in their grant application for funding the four phase.  The Stellar committee moved that portion of the project over to Stellar application.  In the final phase is the interior work including ADA accessible restrooms, the addition of a balcony, dressing rooms and constructing the tiered flooring along with the third floor renovation work.
